![]() The way I see it, is its better to have a modern game engine with a ton of possibilities than staying in the past using old technology. I would imagine maybe even counters made if possible. I'm sure there will be some great things done. So I think this is a fantastic starting platform for modders to do their thing on. From what I understand this game will be able to be modded. Your last point is that a 2d game is very appealing because of a mod. So lets stop the 3d better and modern arguments, when it is more about an effective, appealing or desirable design choice. PC2 is emulating that same GAME, yet using a hybrid 2d/3d look (2.5d).Īgain I really enjoying the new visuals, but I still think 2D is very effective in map oriented turn based war games, including 2d counters (an excellent example being Strategic Command (3) World War 1 with IronX mod - crisp, effective and appealing). PC was not emulating a look, it was emulating a GAME. However moving to 3d (or 2.5d) engines has a price.įor some it is performance and size, for others it is clarity.Īlthough I like PC2 with its bold move to the Unreal engine, this will be a two edged sword - it will help attract younger players with eye candy, yet lose some older players who just want to play a game on their old lap top. I think it is very important for wargaming in general that games continue to evolve, also visually. There is a big gap between Panzer General and Panzer Corps even if the gameplay is essentially the same. This has nothing to do with 1990s looks, lameness and performance. 2d is actually very effective for map based games. 2D was always lame but there was no way around it until recently.Īlthough I really like the new graphics I absolutely disagree with your reasoning here.Ģd graphics, especially for turn based war games, continues to be a very valid approach. ![]() Please stop comparing it to games that emulate the late 1990s 2d look. But it's worth mentioning I can play all my other TB strategy games on this laptop - Civ6, UoC2, EU4, CK2, OoB, etc - all of them are fine, except PC2. I have a high-end laptop but with the basic Intel GPU. It hurts to say that.ĪLSO - I'm really bummed this game won't run on my laptop, I actually have to sit at my gaming rig to play. ![]() (I am playing on max all settings) But the meat of the game just looks awful. Now I will say that the menus, and info at the sides, everything else looks fantastic. I actually fired up the original PC last night and played for a few hours (wasting my 2-day window!) because I got a taste for PC again and couldn't stand looking at this new one. I can barely tell what units I have or what is facing me, it all blends in with the bland terrain - it is totally washed out and same-looking. I keep trying, but I can't get myself to play for more than a few minutes - it just looks terrible. 2D graphics would be fine with me but heck I'm up for 3D, or so I thought. I loved Panzer Corps, love the entire genre.
